Welcome To Our Virtual Classroom! We are proud to say that as an HP Authorized Training Partner, we utilize the HP Virtual Classroom for our all of our LIVE virtual training classes. If this is your first time utilizing our IT-VT (Instructor Taught-Virtual Training) delivery method we have full confidence you will come away from this experience excited about the ease of use and convenience of this learning option.
Voice over IP (VoIP) audio is used for all virtual classes. You must have a headset (headphone with microphone); otherwise you will experience feedback that will inhibit your ability to communicate with the instructor in the Virtual Classroom. Please, no exceptions!
You will need a Microsoft Windows based PC that has Internet Explorer 6.x or 7.x browser with ActiveX controls and VBScript enabled to access the HP Virtual Environment. If you have previously taken a virtual training course with us, we recommend you use the same PC you used for the course.
In order to help ensure a successful training experience, it is critical that you test your connectivity to this remote environment before your scheduled training session, and allow time to configure your browser. Also, make certain the PC you test is the PC you will be using for the class, and from the location that you will take the training (i.e., your home or office).
Please perform the following system tests at least 2 business days before your class begins:
Test your HP Virtual Room Access
Go to Run Virtual Room Test and click on "start test". Complete all test items, including #4 "(Optional) Confirm Voice over IP (VoIP) Setup."
Test Your Extreme Networks Virtual Lab Server Access
1. From the PC and the location (i.e., home, office, etc.) that you plan to use, do the following...
2. From a DOS prompt, start a continuous ping to 71.43.195.196 (ping 71.43.195.196 –t) and let it run.
3. You will need a SSH client. If you don’t have one you can Google “PuTTY” and download a copy for free and install it or use the following link. Main download page: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
4. Start PuTTY and enter 71.43.195.196 for the IP address. For the connection type mark SSH which will set the port to 22. For ease of use type “Extreme Virtual Class” for saved session and then click the save button. Now click on the “OPEN” button at the bottom of the PuTTY window. Please be patient as PuTTY needs to exchange SSH keys (20-30 seconds). A window may pop-up asking you to accept the key… click on “Yes”. You should now have a new PuTTY window asking “login as:” enter “test:serial” and then at the “Password” prompt enter “test” without the quotes. Next you will see “Connect to port >”
If you progressed this far, then you should have no issues on the morning of the class!
Here is a sample of what you should see…
5. Go to the ping that is running and stop it with the “Control + C” keys and look at the line that says “Lost = 0 (0% loss)”. If this is a high number there could be issues with your connection. | Test your access to the Lab PC’s
We use TightVNC to access our PC’s in the lab. You will need to access these. Download the viewer from the following link: http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=vnc-tight&filename=tightvnc-1.3.9_x86_viewer.zip&use_mirror=voxel and install it. Depending on your security settings and browser, you may get a yellow bar at the top part of your screen saying that Explorer has blocked your download and to click here for options. Click and select “Download File”. It should now ask where you want to save it…Put it anywhere you like, most prefer the desktop.
When you start the viewer you will see the following screen. Fill out the information as shown and click “Connect”.
Next you will see the Authentication screen. If you see this screen, you should be ready for the class! The password will be given to you at the start of your class on Monday.
